Here are the first finalists of all IPL seasons:
- 2008 – Rajasthan Royals
RR was the first team to reach the final of IPL. They also lifted the trophy by defeating CSK.
- 2009 – Deccan Chargers
Deccan Chargers reached the final before any other team and also won the title.
Despite being the first finalist of IPL 2010, MI lost the summit clash to CSK.
- 2011 – Chennai Super Kings
CSK was not only the first team to reach the final, but also won the trophy in the 2011 edition of IPL.
- 2012 – Kolkata Knight Riders
KKR booked a place in the final battle before any other team and defeated CSK to win the title.
- 2013 – Chennai Super Kings
Although CSK were the first team to reach the final in 2013, they lost to MI in the summit clash.
- 2014 – Kolkata Knight Riders
After booking their last spot in 2012, KKR beat Kings XI Punjab to lift the trophy.
Was the first player to reach the final of MI IPL 2015. They also became the eventual champions of the season.
- 2016 – Royal Challengers Bangalore
RCB dominated the 2016 edition of IPL and reached the final before any other team.
- 2017 – Rising Pune Supergiants
Steve Smith-led RPS were the first finalists of IPL 2017. However, they lost the final battle to Mumbai Indians.
- 2018 – Chennai Super Kings
Not only did CSK reach the final before any other team in 2018, they also lifted the title.
MI was the first team to go into the final championship battle of the 2019 IPL edition.
MI once again booked their final spot in 2020 ahead of any other team for the second time in a row.
- 2021 – Chennai Super Kings
CSK was the first team to make it to the finals of IPL in 2021.
Making their IPL debut, GT booked their final spot in 2022 ahead of any other team and also lifted the trophy.
- 2023 – Chennai Super Kings
CSK is the first team to seal the last spot in IPL 2023. Notably, they will be appearing in the league’s summit clash for a record tenth time.
