Green Bay Packers wide receiver Christian Watson believes his team has ‘full confidence’ in starting quarterback Jordan Love’s first year since 2020 first-round selection, which will replace future Hall of Famer Aaron Rodgers. sat behind for three seasons.
“People need to understand that [Love] Was learning and practicing and in the meeting room with the Hall of Fame quarterback every day,” Watson told PFF’s Trevor Sikkima. “He’s his own quarterback, but I’m sure he took a lot from Aaron. Is [Rodgers], We’ve seen a lot of what he can do. It is simply being put more on display. Everything we’ve seen so far is only going to multiply. We are ready to go out there and bowl. We have full faith in him.”
Love’s only touchdown pass during the 2022 season came on a 63-yard connection with Watson in primetime against the Philadelphia Eagles after Rodgers left the contest with an injury.
Now, with Rodgers traded to New York, Green Bay’s new quarterback and receiver pairing will have a chance to lead the Packers’ passing game in 2023.
Watson, a second-round pick in 2022, emerged as a pass-catching star in the second half of his rookie season, with 31 catches for 523 yards and seven scores in the final eight regular-season games. Love will need to pick him up where he left off to open Year 2, especially given the youth and inexperience of the wide receiver and tight end squads in Green Bay.
Watson is the top target. Love is the new starter. Together, the tandem will determine whether or not the Packers have a passing attack capable of being competitive this season.
