The Arizona Cardinals have wrapped up one week of voluntary OTAs (organized team activities). They have full 90-man off-season rosters.
However, they do have two long snappers on the team with a combined NFL game of experience. One is Joe Fortunado, who has one NFL game under him, and Matt Hembrose, a rookie drafted out of Oklahoma State.
Their long snapper for the past seven years, Aaron Brewer is still a free agent.
His return has not been ruled out.
How would we know, even if no one said anything?
Brewer’s number 46 is still available.
His longtime punter Andy Lee is still unsigned, but his number 14 remains available until the Cardinals sign punter Matt Hack.
Since then, rookie receiver Michael Wilson has taken the number 14.
Number 46 isn’t exactly a popular number, but it shows that the team hasn’t excluded him.
They know what Brewer, who will turn 33 in July, can do. They’re evaluating Fortunado and Hembrough.
But if Brewer is added later in the off-season, we probably shouldn’t be surprised.
