Fans could see some tough QB play in the NFC South in 2023.
NFL.com’s Adam Schein released a ranking of each division by the strength of its quarterbacks, and the NFC South’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers were ranked last. Schein commented that the notion of Saints QB Derek Carr being the best quarterback in the division is not a ringing endorsement of the QB talent that puts it forward.
He didn’t have much to say about Bucs QB Baker Mayfield, though, keeping his thoughts on the new Tampa Bay signal collar briefs:
What’s in Store in Book Form for Baker? Who knows? Last season, he was bad in Carolina and solid in Los Angeles. he has not been legally Good Over the years, though, Tampa has had legit receiver talent around them.
Sheen is probably following in the footsteps of Mayfield, whose best season came in 2020 with the Cleveland Browns. That being said, Mayfield hasn’t technically won the job over Bucs QB Kyle Trask yet, who could be in the running for the starting position in camp.
The Falcons will look to oust second-year QB Desmond Ridder and the Panthers are likely to start newly-drafted QB Bryce Young, so it’s true that the division could see a decline in quarterback play. The Bucs will hope that Mayfield or Trask can use Tampa Bay’s weapons to their advantage, and how well the two adapt to the situation remains to be seen.
