When it comes to concerns about depth for the Carolina Panthers, much of the attention is directed toward the team’s receiving corps. But it’s the opposite part of the personnel that could be the bigger issue.
New secondary/cornerbacks coach Jonathan Culley spoke to reporters following Thursday’s installment of organized team activities. When asked about the situation in the cornerbacks room, Culley played it cool.
“I’ve really enjoyed it,” said Cooley. “We have veterans out there, we have young players that we’re very excited about. And then, just developing the backend depth—because corners is a position that’s very important to us in the NFL, to know that How we want to play on defense. So, creating more versatility with those guys has been helpful. But I really like the guys we have in the room and I couldn’t be more excited to work with them. Can.
Outside of Jesse Horn, the Panthers do not have a sure thing at the position. Behind Horn at the top of the chart sits Donte Jackson, who is still recovering from an Achilles tear, as well as CJ Henderson and Keith Taylor Jr. – both of whom didn’t exactly shine when given their chance at the end of last season. ,
Still, Cooley is encouraged by all four men at this point in the offseason.
“Most of them are relatively young,” he says when asked who has influenced him the most. As far as young players go, JC is in his first contract. He has done a wonderful job for us. Keith Taylor’s done a great job with us—just keeps getting better and better. D-Jax is probably older and he has been a great teammate. CJ Henderson has done a great job in filling his role this spring. So, we’re really excited to have a lot of them.
