Panthers safeties coach Bert Watts: There’s ‘no BS’ with Jammie Robinson

Jamie Robinson was all business from the moment the Carolina Panthers selected him with the 145th overall pick of the 2023 NFL Draft. And apparently, his business is still booming.

On Thursday, new safeties coach Bert Watts spoke to reporters after this week’s shutdown of organized team activities. He was asked how much the team had explored Robinson’s versatility as a defensive back, and replied with the following:

“Jamie is a guy who has really come in from the start and impressed us – just with his knowledge, work ethic, learning and being able to pick up on defense quickly,” said Watts. “So whenever you have got a youngster who has potential. , , That’s a lot of information to retain in a short amount of time, and she has shown an ability to do so. We’re still working through it as we get through workouts. This is just the beginning of the process, so trying to identify where our employees are the best fit. But he’s shown that he can really play in multiple positions.”

The 5-foot-11, 191-pounder has the chops to line up as both a safety and a nickel corner. He demonstrated exactly that at the collegiate level, most notably as a two-time first-team All-ACC selection for Florida State University between 2021 and 2022.

Watts also spoke of Robinson’s personality, a defense likely to benefit immediately.

“He’s playing to win,” he replied. “He’s not too worried. . As far as, if he says something, it’s going to upset someone. He’s more concerned about helping this team and improving himself every day. I love that kind of personality.” I’m excited about it because there’s no B.S. You’re just saying, ‘Hey, let’s get to work, let’s get well.’ And that’s all about it.

With the Panthers Von Bell and Xavier Woods as their starting safeties and with Jeremy Chinn likely to fill the nickel role, Robinson may not have a special role with the bat. But there is always room for another dog in this rescue.
