Pro Football Focus released its ranking of the top 32 running backs in the NFL heading into the 2023 season. The biggest thing that stood out on this ranking was just how many great running backs there are in the league right now.
The second thing that stood out was how low the PFF ranked Pittsburgh Steelers running back Naji Harris. They have Harris at No.19. Here’s what he had to say about the ranking:
Harris has been solid throughout his NFL career. He rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons, but did so with a sub-4.0 yards-per-carry average. So far, he’s been more a product of his quantity than efficiency. We will see if he can take the next step in 2023.
Harris sees his numbers decline in 2022 after a rookie season of 1,200 yards. Harris found sledding difficult early in the year and once the run game got going, it was a shared phenomenon with Harris and Jaylen Warren. Given all those factors, it seems fair to keep Harris at 19. He could have a breakout year on the field but it doesn’t look like he’s going to be involved in the offense this season.
